According to the latest list published by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Apple has been granted a patent related to Apple Watch technology. The patent aims to allow Apple Watch to interact with various fitness equipment, thereby providing more accurate fitness data.
Apple stated that traditional pedometers mainly rely on accelerometers to determine whether the user has taken a step, but the natural swing of the arm can also cause variations, leading to inaccurate step counts.
Apple hopes that Apple Watch can connect with various fitness equipment such as treadmills to provide more accurate fitness data. The method can also include obtaining first machine data from the fitness machine. First machine data can specify the type of fitness machine.
In one example, Apple stated that a treadmill calculates the distance and calories burned based on the motor’s operation, rather than on an accelerometer. Therefore, it can better track distance and calorie consumption.
Tech Universus also learned from the patent that Apple hopes to provide corresponding exercise courses and more complete fitness data through the connection between Apple Watch and various fitness equipment such as treadmills and rowing machines.
